Meet Us

Ramona L. Dye, Owner and Editor-in-Chief

Hi, my name is Ramona Dye and I  am the mother of 3 beautiful children. I decided to start this website about something I hold dear to my heart,  the Pittsburgh Steelers!  Let's talk about my most favorite subject, Steelers football!

Now, for  the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is amazing how I become a Steeler fan. I was born in Bedford, Ohio and soon after my family moved to southwestern Virginia. I was about 5 years old when I first became aware of the Pittsburgh Steelers and although I had no clue what kind of impact the Steelers would have on my life, I knew there was something special about them.  I won my first five dollar bet on them and have been a fan ever since my uncle Vernie allowed me to pick whichever team I wanted. There were two teams on the tv that day, a team wearing an ugly brown color, which I would find out later were called the Cleveland Browns and a team that wore the colors black and yellow, that reminded me of those  big black and yellow bumblebees. ( Hey I was 5)  Well my pick was made that day and for the rest of my life it would seem.  No way that ugly brown team could whip up on a pack of bumblebees. And so my fate was sealed. The Steelers won and I have not stopped being a fan since that very day.  My mom to this day blames my uncle for making a bet on a football game and turning her daughter into such a die-hard Steeler fanatic. Cute huh??

What's the big deal about Steeler football?  Being a Steeler fan means so much more than football.  It means being from a corner of the world unlike any other.  It means being from a place where the people are so tough-minded that they have survived the Homestead strikes , the Johnstown flood and most recently the Etna floods.  People from Pittsburgh don't have the biggest shopping malls or the best nightclubs,  but they'll take Friday night high school football and Steeler Sunday over anything.  Steeler football means so much more than you think.  It symbolizes a diaspora of generations who had the best childhood they could imagine.

As the steel mills closed and the jobs disappeared,  some of these people had to leave.  While the world benefits because they spread their Pittsburgh values,  they long for their home where things were simpler and more pure.  They teach their kids about Jack Lambert and Joe Greene in hopes of departing not just the knowledge, but the feeling that they represented.

Make no mistake that Steeler football is not just about football.  It's about love and pride of something that cannot be touched, only felt.

What can I say? I am a die-hard Black and Gold Pittsburgh Steelers fanatic. That's right, I am no mere fan. I am a fanatic.

I love bone crushing hits, huge runs, pancake blocks and big plays.  I love a wide receiver that has a nose for destruction and a coach that makes no excuses.  I love no nonsense, smash mouth, in your face, 60 minutes, blood, sweat and cheers football.

Most of all, I love a good parade in the middle of February and a chance to see the WORLD CHAMPS!  I never thought that freezing my butt off could be so much fun while hanging out with 300,000 of my best friends on the Boulevard of Allies, aka the real Canyon of Champs in the city with the NFL franchise that has 6 Super Bowl winning teams.

I live 90 miles north of Pittsburgh, in the small tool and die town, Meadville, known for giving the world the zipper.  Meadville sits 80 miles from Cleveland, 130 from Buffalo and 93 miles from Pittsburgh. Growing up here in northwestern Pennsylvania, I had my choice of becoming a Browns fan or Bills fan.  Instead, I opted for the Black 'n Gold.

Football is king around here.  We live for Friday nights when local high school football teams take the field with the big dreams to make it big. We spend Saturdays cheering on our Pitt Panthers.

Sundays should be a nationwide holiday because we are blessed to watch greatness in a little stadium named after a ketchup company. (Some people believe that they named the field after Hines Ward, honestly.)

At the age of 30, I have lived through the good, the bad and the down right ugly seasons.   Yet, you can expect my unvarnished feelings and opinions from this die-hard Steeler fan.  I thank you for reading my articles and visiting the site.
